Breath test put driver’s blood alcohol level at 0.123 after crash that killed pedestrian, arrest report says

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The driver involved in a crash that killed a pedestrian who was walking on the 215 Beltway near Charleston Boulevard at around 3 a.m. on Saturday is facing a charge of DUI resulting in death.

An arrest report filed in the case indicates that a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper who responded to the scene of the crash talked to Alton James Parcells, 23, who told him he was the driver of the silver Toyota SUV involved in the crash.

Parcells said the man — later identified as 25-year-old Emmanuel Steve Sanchez — was in the middle of the road when he saw him, and that he was going the speed limit when he hit the brakes. When the trooper detected the scent of alcohol, Parcells told him “two to three” before settling on three. While they were talking, Parcells was unsteady on his feet, according to the report.

The trooper told Parcells he had to make sure he was OK to drive, and did field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test registered 0.123, far above the 0.08 limit. The test was performed more than four hours after the time Parcells said he had his last drink.

Parcells was placed in handcuffs at about 3:30 a.m. and advised that he was under arrest for DUI. Two vials of blood were drawn at about 5:15 a.m., but the results of that test were not available…
