LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — As extreme heat begins to settle into Las Vegas, volunteers who spend their weekends helping people living on the streets are preparing for life-threatening emergencies they expect to see more often in the months ahead.
Every Saturday, anywhere from 50 to 70 volunteers with Shine a Light go into the community, walking sidewalks and going through tunnels to offer food, water, and supplies to unhoused people.
This time of year, the outreach teams are also encountering dangerous heat-related situations, prompting leaders within the organization to bring in medical professionals to teach volunteers how to respond and potentially save lives in extreme temperatures…
