A Las Vegas Valley girl suffered burns after a NeeDoh gel toy was left inside a hot car, highlighting a growing danger tied to the popular squishy toys. Doctors say heated gel can cling to skin and keep burning after the toy ruptures. Some injuries have been serious enough to require treatment in an operating room.
According to FOX5 Vegas, Dr. Makayla Romboy of Sunrise Hospital said the toy dissolved and dripped gel onto the child’s lap after being left in the vehicle. Romboy said the sticky material can remain hot after escaping and may require doctors to remove burned, dead skin to help prevent infection.
Las Vegas Heat Is Part Of The Problem
The local case did not involve a microwave stunt, but it shows how ordinary summer heat can create a similar hazard. Shriners Children’s Boston says gel-filled toys can become dangerously hot in vehicles or outdoors, while freezing can make the outer shell brittle and more likely to crack.
Doctors at the Boston burn center said they have treated at least one child a week in recent months for severe scald or chemical burns linked to microwaved toys and knockoff versions. Boston specialists have warned that the toys are intended for room-temperature play, not kitchen experiments or desert-car storage.
Federal Injury Reports Are Rising
An Axios review found at least 16 NeeDoh-related reports published through the Consumer Product Safety Commission in 2026, compared with three during all of 2025.
