LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Dozens of seniors living at Maycliffe Estates, a mobile home park in East Las Vegas, say they are being priced out of their homes. Residents accuse the park’s new owners, a Utah-based corporation, of raising lot rents while the property deteriorates.
Residents told FOX5 News that this is just one of the reasons they are opposing the increase. Residents have gathered signatures for a petition and are demanding that local officials step in.
Residents call rent hike “elder abuse”
Because many tenants are seniors, residents are calling the rent hike elder abuse. They have begun the process of filing a petition with the Nevada Attorney General’s office.
Residents told FOX5 that rents stayed relatively stable for years until a new Utah-based corporate owner took over about a year ago. They say that is when monthly lot fees rose. Since then, residents say the park has grown dilapidated with “no improvements whatsoever,” despite management’s push for more money…
