LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Diesel prices are climbing sharply across the country, but the steepest costs are hitting the West — and Nevada is among the most expensive places to fill up.
AAA reported the average price of a gallon of diesel in Nevada at $6.58, up $0.05 from the day before, $0.30 from the previous week, and more than $2.60 higher than the same time last year. In the Las Vegas area, diesel set a record at $6.53 per gallon. Reno’s price was even higher, at $6.90 per gallon. Overall, Nevada’s diesel prices are more than $0.30 above the national average.
The surge is rippling through industries that rely on diesel, from trucking to small businesses trying to manage rising operating costs.
“Diesel prices are hitting us hard. They are at all time highs,” said Paul Enos, CEO of the Nevada Trucking Association.
Enos said some truckers are paying close to a dollar per mile in fuel costs. “Just for some context. For a truck that gets 6.5 miles per gallon, you are looking at about a buck a mile so that does absolutely hurt our industry,” he said.
