LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — In just days, Henderson Hospital will close the doors to its NICU. The NICU stops accepting new patients on September 30. After 7 p.m. that day, if a patient arrives at Henderson Hospital in labor, the NICU nurses explain, the emergency room will be in charge.
“I’ve delivered babies in cars and hallways. That’s what’s going to happen in Henderson’s ER,” said Henderson Hospital NICU nurse Gregory Williams.

“I’m just heartbroken for our community. Henderson’s growing! You drive all over Henderson, you can see there’s thousands and thousands of homes being built, and we’re taking such a valuable resource away from our community,” said Henderson Hospital NICU nurse Cassandra Ramos.

For Ramos, working at the hospital as a NICU nurse was a longtime dream of hers.
“At nursing school, I was a NICU cuddler, because I knew I wanted to work there,” Ramos said.
