Alleged chop shop busted, 13 vehicles seized

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The gray SUV belonging to a Las Vegas family was strangely missing. Their only clue was a gray driver’s door handle shimmering in the morning sun on their neighborhood street. The mystery led police to bust a two-time convicted felon’s alleged chop shop.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrested Jorge Moreira, 32, on Sept. 23 in connection with the theft of six vehicles, with officers recovering 13 vehicles in the area around a chop shop. Moreira faces charges of ownership of a chop shop and possession, grand larceny, and burglary of a stolen vehicle, documents obtained by 8 News Now Investigators show.

Moreira was identified and arrested, in part, through police use of Flock cameras. Police observed Moreira selling electronics at a Las Vegas pawn shop that were allegedly taken from the stolen vehicles, sometimes hours after they were reported missing.
