‘I’m running the department:’ Henderson police chief boasts drop in crime, more cops on street

Henderson, Nev. — The Henderson police chief says crime is down, recruitment is up, and – despite questions over who, in fact, runs the department – he’s in charge.

“I run the department,” Rader told the 8 News Now Investigators Tuesday after giving his annual report to the City Council. Rader said compared to last year, violent crime is down 18%, property crime is down 13%, and crimes against the person are down 7 percent. And 20% more officers patrol the streets of Nevada’s second-largest city.

“I’m an a political person. My main goal is the citizens of Henderson. That’s who I work for, really. But the wins that we’ve been able to gain, I wouldn’t be able to do that without the support of our elected officials and city management.”

But Hollie Chadwick, now running against incumbent Michelle Romero for mayor of Henderson in November’s general election, told 8 News Now earlier this year that Rader is not in charge of the department…
