Nevada scientist among those logging ‘lost’ species as fewer endangered species are listed

Long before Las Vegas’ Fremont Street was a gambling hub festooned with neon lights, Oreocarya insolita, a shin-high wildflower with white blossoms, bloomed each spring in the creosote scrub brush.

But a confirmed sighting of Oreocarya insolita hasn’t been logged in the Las Vegas area for nearly 100 years. And as far as scientists know, it grows nowhere else in the world…
