Las Vegas valley rideshare drivers fed up over low wages

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Many rideshare drivers across Las Vegas are fed up with the low wages they feel they have been making.

Some stated that picking up and dropping off passengers may not be worth it for them anymore.

“I got a 42-minute ride and I made $11 dollars. That’s less than $15 dollars an hour. Who in Vegas can afford to live off of $15 an hour,” rideshare driver, Joe Vaughn said.

Some drivers felt as if companies like Uber and Lyft were taking a higher percentage of their rides.

“Since I started working with Uber, they would take 20% to 25%, now I’m noticing it’s anywhere between 55% to 70%. They are no longer transparent as to how much the rider pays for the trip,” Wally Garcia shared.

Rideshare drivers also noticed the increase of fees they now have to pay to drive for these companies too.

“There also charging drivers a weekly fair, random $200 to $300 dollars per week and call it a service fee,” rideshare driver, Sonja Ellis shared.

Ellis drives for both Uber and Lyft and said with the amount of money they are charging passengers, the drivers see less than half of it.
