Deadly hit-and-run crash in north Las Vegas valley causes road closures

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash in the north Las Vegas valley.

On Sunday afternoon, police responded to a report of a crash in the area of Lake Mead Boulevard and Tonopah Drive near MLK Boulevard.

Police said that a vehicle was driving eastbound on Lake Mead Boulevard at a high rate of speed. When it approached the intersection with Tonopah Drive, the driver ran a red light and hit a pedestrian crossing in the crosswalk, police said.

The driver did not stop and left the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metro police are looking for information on the driver of a black GMC single cab pickup truck with NV license plate 958.Y18.

According to RTC Southern Nevada, all lanes on Lake Mead Boulevard between Comstock and Tonopah Drive were closed in both directions.
