LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — A judge on Monday morning dismissed charges against a Clark County School District teacher arrested at a school board meeting last August.
CCSDPD placed Kristan Nigro in handcuffs and cited her for disturbing the peace during the height of teacher protest over a new contract with CCSD.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada represented Nigro in the case and filed a motion last week Thursday to dismiss the charge.
On Monday, a judge agreed and Nigro told 8 News Now “I’m a free woman.”
Charges were also dismissed for the other teacher arrested and cited that day.
“Neither of our clients should have been cuffed and removed from a CCSD board meeting, and we’re glad to see these defective citations dismissed,” ACLU staff attorney Jacob Smith said to 8 News Now in a statement. “Teachers should not have to fear criminal prosecution when advocating for themselves.”
