A Korean-American boy is in critical condition after being hit by a pickup truck on his morning walk to school in Las Vegas.
The boy, whose mother is a single parent of three, has the community rallying around him through a GoFundMe campaign to cover medical expenses.
11-year-old Rayan Kim was riding his electric bicycle to school when he was struck by a pickup truck around 8 a.m. on January 31, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
He survived the accident but is reportedly still unconscious. Rayan sustained severe injuries, including losing half of his right ear, fractures to his jaw, facial bones, and arm, severe road rash burns, a cerebral hemorrhage, and internal bleeding.
“Before he left for school, he said, ‘I love you’, and that was the last time I heard his voice,” said Kim’s mother.
“He has a big heart and he’s strong enough to take care of me even though I’m his mom,” Kim said, adding, “His injuries are serious. I miss my son.”
According to the police, the accident occurred just about a mile from Gunderson Middle School where Kim attends.
