In a somewhat shocking statement, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said she has issues with the plan to build a new stadium for the A’s in Las Vegas. In a story released by ESPN, she stated that the deal “does not make sense” and that the A’s management should go back to the drawing board and figure things out in Oakland.
She told the Front Office Sports Today podcast, “I think the A’s have got to figure out a way to stay in Oakland to make their dreams come true.” The podcast was released today.
She then backtracked a little on social media but did not back down from her statement. In a post she created on X formerly known as Twitter, she stated, “I believe that in their perfect world, the ownership of the A’s would like to have a new ballpark, on the water in Oakland. The ownership and government should listen to the great fans of Oakland and try to make that dream come true. Should that fail, Las Vegas would be a spectacular market for a major league sports franchise.”
