LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Flu cases surged from mid-December to mid-January but hospitalizations have leveled off over the past three weeks, according to information released Wednesday by the Nevada Hospital Association (NHA).
RSV — Respiratory Syncytial Virus — followed a similar trend, but cases were lower than lower.
Through Jan. 13, 49 deaths associated with influenza were reported by hospitals and other health care providers that provide information to the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD). The majority — 84% — involved patients 65 and older. The remaining deaths were reported in two age groups, 25-49 and 50-64, which had four deaths each.
Statewide, hospital occupancy is at 82%, slightly higher in Clark County at 84%. Pediatric wards are 74% full in the county.
A total of 685 flu cases were reported in Clark County through Jan. 13, the latest report available from SNHD.
Combined, all strains of flu accounted for the most hospitalizations (blue line in the chart above). Type-A influenza (yellow line) is the dominant strain. RSV hospitalizations (green line) were lower.
