A serious traffic accident involving a pedestrian and a 2014 Hyundai Sonata occurred on N. Rancho Drive, south of W. Craig Road, on October 2, 2023. The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was hit by the vehicle while crossing the road outside a marked crosswalk. The driver, a 72-year-old man, initially left the scene but was later arrested for hit-and-run. The pedestrian was critically injured and taken to the University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section is investigating the incident. The driver was not impaired at the time of the accident. The pedestrian was in critical condition at the hospital, and the driver was arrested.
The pedestrian died from his injuries on January 30, 2024, as reported by the UMC Trauma staff. The Clark County Coroner’s Office informed the police about the pedestrian’s death.
Despite the death, it won’t be counted as a 2023 traffic-related fatality in the police department’s jurisdiction, in line with the Nevada Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) criteria.
