LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — A Clark County School District bus driver charged with DUI told police he dropped students off at school just before getting into a crash, police documents said.
Luisito Torres Nazaire, 48, faces several charges including DUI and child endangerment after he was involved in a crash while driving a school bus.
On Jan. 31 at around 7:30 a.m., officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene of a collision on Vegas Valley Drive near Stewart Avenue and Fogg Street.
The collision involved a Clark County School District bus and a white sedan. Three people were in the sedan and the bus held no passengers at the time of the crash, the report stated.
Witnesses told police the bus was traveling “erratically” and up “onto the sidewalk.” A video a witness took showed the bus swerving in and out of the lane before hitting the white sedan, which was stopped on the shoulder of the road with its hazard lights on, according to the report.
Police said Nazaire was sitting in the bus with his head down on the steering wheel and was “startled” when an officer knocked on the bus door. Nazaire told the officer he “dozed off for a moment,” claiming that had not happened before.
