Scattered showers, thunderstorm risk possible over Southern Nevada, Southern California

The National Weather Service in Las Vegas forecasts an increase in monsoonal moisture across the region during the second half of the week as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Four Corners area. This will result in scattered showers and thunderstorms starting Thursday and continuing through the weekend. The ridge will also bring rising temperatures, which will remain hot into early next week.

Thunderstorm activity on Thursday will be mainly confined to Mohave, southern Clark, and San Bernardino counties. As a disturbance moves north from Baja California into southern California, shower and thunderstorm activity will spread into Inyo County Thursday night and Friday, with a marginal risk of heavy rainfall in localized areas. Temperatures will generally increase as the ridge builds, though cloud cover and ongoing thunderstorms may moderate this rise. Smoke from the Nixon Fire near Palm Springs and the Boreal Fire in southern Kern County is expected to stay primarily over San Bernardino, Inyo, Nye, and Esmeralda counties.
