The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning, which remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight, with temperatures ranging from 6 to 10 degrees above normal.
Wildfire Smoke Affects Air Quality
Air quality across southern Nevada and eastern California has been impacted by lingering wildfire smoke, particularly from the Broom Canyon Fire located along the White Pine and Nye County line, southwest of Ely. Satellite data shows clear skies, but air quality sensors continue to detect moderate levels of PM2.5 particulate matter, which has led to hazier conditions. According to simulations, smoke concentrations will persist in the region through tonight, potentially affecting visibility and air quality.
Cooling Trend and Storm Chances on the Horizon
Though no record-breaking temperatures are expected, residents will feel some relief starting this weekend as temperatures are forecasted to gradually cool. There’s a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms this afternoon and evening in parts of southeast Mohave County, as well as in the southern Sierra and White Mountains of Inyo and Esmeralda counties.
