Local firefighters return after helping contain Davis Fire in northern Nevada

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Local firefighters are back home after fighting the Davis fire in Northern Nevada.

“We ran 150 calls total while we were up there and enjoyed our time with the public,” Clark County Fire Department Captain Matt Vanbuskirk told 8 News Now.

What initially was a 14-day deployment, ended up being a week as crews were able to get the blaze under control faster than expected. However, the severity of the flames was still dire with 34 fire personnel from various Clark County Fire Departments making their way up north near Reno.

“That fire was really raging. If it would have made it another couple of hundred yards..into the north, it would have burned through some really expensive property,” Capt. Vanbuskirk shared.

Engineer Paramedic with Clark County Fire Micheal Herrera said the strike team is all about coming together to support not only the community but each other.

“When these folks up in Reno were overtaxed and overwhelmed, they asked us for help,” Herrera shared.
