NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KLAS) — North Las Vegas City Councilwoman Ruth Garcia-Anderson won re-election by 9 votes — a difference of 0.04%, according to unofficial election results updated Wednesday.
Garcia-Anderson won the Ward 2 race against Robert “Twixx” Taylor, who led the incumbent by 35 votes heading into Tuesday. Both candidates advanced to the November election after the June primary because neither achieved a majority in a three-way race. Taylor beat Garcia-Anderson by 38 votes.
Ward 2 encompasses the southern portion of the city west of Interstate 15.
Clark County finished processing provisional ballots on Wednesday, leading to Garcia-Anderson’s 9-vote advantage. In terms of percentages, Garcia-Anderson won 50.02% of the vote compared to Taylor’s 49.98%. Nearly 21,000 people voted in the race.
The North Las Vegas City Council appointed Garcia-Anderson to her seat in December 2022. Current Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown held the seat before she was elected mayor.
