LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Earlier today, travelers were getting an early start on the weekend, leaving Las Vegas for Southern California on Interstate 15. Now, the traffic is headed toward Las Vegas.
Freeway cameras showed heavy southbound traffic on I-15 at about 12:30 p.m. at the California-Nevada state line. Traffic narrows to two lanes in California, and that apparently caused the backup on Friday afternoon.
By 4:30 p.m., the bulk of the traffic was headed this way. A two-hour backup is delaying travelers near the border.
With New Year’s Eve falling on Tuesday and the New Year’s holiday on Wednesday, it could be packed on the Las Vegas Strip this weekend as people come early and stay late.
An estimated 350,000 people are expected in Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve.
One crash reported along I-15 near Primm wasn’t having a significant effect on traffic, just closing the shoulder of the highway.
