Grandmother demands justice for Las Vegas toddler found in dumpster

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — To Gracie Martin, 2-year-old Jacoby Robinson Jr., her grandson, was a sweet baby who enjoyed Cheetos. After his death and the discovery of his body in a dumpster, she relives memory after memory.

Diaja Smith, 23; and Jacoby Robinson Sr., 24, are charged with murder in the death of their son. Each faces additional charges of child abuse resulting in substantial bodily harm involving another son, records said.

Martin, Jacoby Robinson Sr.’s mother, said she last saw her grandson in 2023.

“He just wanted to be loved,” she said. He is still loved even after he was taken away from his grandmother.

On June 6, 2024, Jacoby’s lifeless body was found in a dumpster near Downtown Las Vegas. Smith is accused of dumping him there, but police believe the toddler died beforehand.

“She always portrayed like she loved the kids,” Martin said. “My son wanted to be the father that his father wasn’t. My son never raised his hand to not one of his kids.”
