The family’s white BMW rental car, bearing California plates 9KHN768, was last detected by GPS on March 13 around 3:30 p.m. local time.

That same afternoon, a devastating 22-vehicle pileup occurred near Williams, Arizona, claiming two lives and sending 16 people to hospitals. The crash site lies along the family’s planned route from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas.
