Two Foreign Nationals Indicted in Las Vegas for Drug Trafficking and Illegal Firearm Possession

Two foreign nationals living illegally in the U.S. were indicted on several charges related to drug trafficking and illegal gun possession, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Nevada. Appearing in court Wednesday, Jose Luis Castillo-Alvarez and Kevin Omar Cruz-Lima faced charges relating to the distribution of heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine, along with counts for unlawful firearm possession, which includes a privately made firearm, as part of an alleged drug trafficking operation stretching from September 2024 to March 27.

The specifics of the indictment, as per the allegations outlined in court documents, detail the possession by Castillo-Alvarez and Cruz-Lima of an AM15 semiautomatic rifle and a 9x19mm semiautomatic pistol on the date of their arrest, the two had been conducting a drug trafficking conspiracy dealing in sizable quantities of controlled substances including more than 100 grams of heroin 50 grams of methamphetamine, 10 grams of fentanyl, and quantities of cocaine, their legal status at the time being without authorization. Castillo-Alvarez, with a history of deportation from the U.S., once again faces charges for re-entering the country after being removed.

The individual charges lay out a grim possibility for the accused – with both Castillo-Alvarez and Cruz-Lima potentially facing life imprisonment if convicted on all counts. The charges include one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, two counts of heroin distribution, one count of a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and two counts associated with possessing a firearm in relation to drug trafficking.
