Atomic Museum Launches ‘Radioactivity After Dark’ Late-Night Series on May 15

A new way to discover science and history in a relaxed and approachable setting, each RAD event will feature exclusive talks with distinguished guest speakers, art stations, compelling programming and an opportunity to view artifacts not regularly on public display.

The inaugural RAD program will include a discussion titled Atomic Fossils: A History of Radiocarbon Dating with Dr. Lauren Parry from Tule Springs National Monument. Developed in the 1940s by atomic scientist Dr. Willard Libby, who later won the Nobel Prize, the radiocarbon dating method was first tested on a large scale in the 1960s right in the Las Vegas Valley at Tule Springs. Dr. Parry will explore how this atomic breakthrough reshaped the fields of geology, paleontology and archaeology.

Additionally, guests will receive the opportunity to view historic film reels released by the Federal Civil Defense Administration during the Atomic Age, explore the museum’s galleries after hours and participate in art and game stations.
