Las Vegas police warn of text, email scams involving traffic fines

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Have you received a message claiming you owe a traffic fine to “Las Vegas Courts?” Metro police said that text is a phishing scam.

The text message will say that records show the receiver has an outstanding traffic ticket and missed the payment deadline. The text also includes a link to click on to “pay” the fake fine.

Clark County does not solicit payments from the public using text messages.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department offered the following tips for avoiding scams:

  • DO NOT:
    • Click on suspicious links
    • Share personal or financial information
    • Make payments via unknown sites
  • DO:
    • Always verify directly through official court websites
    • Stay vigilant
