The incident, which involved a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis, took place on May 23, around 11:56 a.m. on South Valley View Boulevard, just north of Westleigh Avenue, according to a report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).

The LVMPD stated that the vehicle, operated by 84-year-old Panagiotos Doukakos, veered off it’s designated travel lane and onto the east sidewalk, where it struck a streetlight pole. This collision resulted in major front-end damage to the car and serious injuries to Doukakos, who was later taken to UMC Trauma for treatment. Despite efforts by medical professionals, the driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Wednesday.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Doukakos’s death was the direct result of injuries from the accident. This fatality marks the 72nd traffic-related death within the jurisdiction of the LVMPD for the year. The case remains under active investigation by the department’s Collision Investigation Section as they work to understand the circumstances surrounding the fatal event…
