‘I never heard wind like that’: Las Vegas windstorm blows away homeowner’s front porch

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Several homes sustained damage during Tuesday’s storm, with one house at a mobile home park in the southern Las Vegas valley losing its porch and patio awning.

Twisted metal sits in the backyard of Sylvia Smith’s mobile home, located near Las Vegas Blvd. and Wigwam Ave.

“When the storm started, it was just a little breeze, and then I got up and looked in my sliding glass door, and all it was, was this big wall of brown coming right at me,” Smith said on Wednesday.

The “big wall of brown” Smith was describing was a dust cloud similar to ones seen in videos viewers sent to 8 News Now. The National Weather Service has classified what happened Tuesday as a “Virga bomb” or dry microburst.
