Couple loses $8,000 in elaborate phone scam, warns others to stay vigilant

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A local couple is speaking out after falling victim to a sophisticated phone scam that cost them more than $8,000. Paul and Maryann Fox, originally from New Jersey, said they want to warn others in the area not to fall for similar schemes.

Paul Fox recounted the ordeal, which began with a series of persistent calls from an unknown number. “I answered the phone and immediately with a stern voice, ‘is this Paul Fox,'” he said. Despite being aware of scams, the couple said this one felt different.

The scammers claimed there was a warrant for Paul’s arrest, demanding immediate payment to avoid being taken into custody. “And he said we have a warrant that you must fulfill today or you could be arrested,” Paul said. After receiving what appeared to be an official arrest warrant with his name, Paul complied with their instructions to pay thousands of dollars…
