Las Vegas’ Venetian Resort Settles $850K Religious Discrimination Lawsuit

The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas has settled an $850,000 lawsuit over allegations of religious discrimination. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) had filed the lawsuit before the resort’s 2022 sale, noting that the Venetian had run afoul of federal law by not accommodating some employees’ religious beliefs and retaliating against those who protested against this treatment, as reported by News3LV.

Details obtained by 8 News Now reveal that the Venetian’s alleged practices included discipline and lack of promotions, leading in some cases to dismissal or what’s known as constructive discharge. With the settlement, the resort must now to also implement “significant policy changes,” a necessary step towards correcting their past failures to respect the pluralism at the heart of American workplaces.

“The law protects the rights of workers in our pluralistic society to live out their various faiths in the workplace,” said EEOC Acting Chair Andrea Lucas, in a statement obtained by News3LV. She explained, “reasonable accommodation might look like, among other things, allowing certain days off for Sabbatarians or Buddhists and allowing beards for Orthodox Christians. It also means not punishing anyone who speaks out in favor of these rights.”…
