Woman watching child who drowned in Las Vegas pool admitted to drinking: police

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A woman who was taking care of a 5-year-old boy when he drowned admitted to drinking alcohol, according to a police report 8 News Now obtained.

Jaxenn Garcia died on June 28 at an apartment complex near Flamingo Road and Nellis Bouelvard.

In an incident report from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, officers said that the adult caused the child to “suffer unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering as a result of negligent treatment or maltreatment of a child.” Police added that a report of “child abuse, neglect, or endangerment was taken” due to the drowning. The name of the person was redacted in the incident report.

8 News Now interviewed the child’s father, Alexander Garcia, on Monday in an exclusive interview where he asked for justice in his son’s death.

“Justice for Jaxenn is spreading awareness for something like this. It should never happen again. And you know, the people [who] were there, I mean I think that [they] should be held responsible,” Alexander Garcia said. “You were ultimately there to watch someone who mattered to you, and you failed at the job.”…
