Dead dog found dumped in crate east of downtown Las Vegas ‘may or may not be a crime’

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Police and Clark County Animal Control officers are investigating a report of a dead dog found in a crate east of the downtown area.

“It’s possible the dog was killed and dumped here, or it could actually be a non-criminal case,” said Lt. Monique Bulmer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. “The decomposition was such that we believe the dog did not die at the scene.”

Police received a call Friday morning that the dead dog was found next to a dumpster on North 27th Street, near Eastern and Sunrise avenues.

Bulmer said it is important for investigators to talk with the person who left the dog near the dumpster to find out the circumstances of the dog’s death. Evidence was collected at the scene.

“We have processed the kennel and swabbed for DNA and fingerprints. Officers are doing an extensive canvass for video,” she said…
