Traffic Backed Up For 15 Miles In Mojave Desert After Truck Hauling Tires Catches Fire

Traffic between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Nev., was backed up for miles in the Mojave Desert on Monday after a truck hauling 25,000 pounds of tires caught fire on the freeway, officials said.

San Bernardino County Fire responded to Interstate 15 near mile marker 133 just south of Baker at around 1 p.m. Monday after a commercial truck caught fire. A preliminary report from California Highway Patrol indicates the tractor-trailer’s brakes caught fire. Fire officials said the truck was hauling 25,000 pounds of tires.

“Limited water sources and 120 degree temperatures make conditions difficult. The result is a major traffic issue on the 15 freeway,” the fire department said, advising motorists to seek alternate routes…
