After Las Vegas’ hottest summer ever, Rosen seeks to classify extreme heat as major disaster

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — After Las Vegas’ hottest summer ever, Democratic Nevada Sen. Jacky Rosen is introducing legislation to declare extreme heat a major disaster.

The Extreme Heat Emergency Act would add extreme temperatures to a list of disasters eligible to receive federal aid, Rosen’s office said. The president has the authority to declare disasters for fires, floods, hurricanes and other natural catastrophes.

So far this summer, 29 people have died in Southern Nevada from heat-related illnesses, a Clark County spokesperson said earlier this week…
