Clark County Implements Mandatory Microchipping for Pets to Reduce Shelter Numbers

Clark County has announced that starting August 4, all dogs and cats over four months old must be microchipped in unincorporated areas. A social media post from the county stated, “Starting August 4 (in 2 weeks) all dogs and cats over 4 months old will be required to be microchipped in unincorporated Clark County?” The new ordinance aims to reduce the number of lost pets entering shelters, as reported by the Clark County Nevada.

Clark County is working with local animal welfare groups to offer pet microchipping services for $5. The county has 10,000 microchips available, funded by $150,000, to help reunite lost pets with their owners. Details, including partner organizations providing the service, are available on the Clark County website.

The county is working with Hearts Alive Village, Heaven Can Wait, and the NSPCA to provide low-cost pet microchipping. Residents are urged to follow the new rules by scheduling the procedure.
