Las Vegas Police Officer Arrested, Charged with DUI and Reckless Driving After High-Speed Chase

A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer was arrested last Wednesday on multiple charges, including DUI and reckless driving. Officer Zachary David Louis was taken into custody after leading a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper on a high-speed chase.

A state trooper spotted a white Dodge Ram pickup swerving on the southbound 215 Beltway near Cheyenne Avenue. The vehicle, driven by Louis, had expired registration and no listed insurance. When the trooper tried to stop the truck, Louis exited the freeway and sped off, reaching speeds of up to 85 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to News 3 Las Vegas.

Louis, an Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer, was arrested after leading police on a chase where he ran red lights and drove recklessly. A state trooper reported that “the vehicle presented a clear and immediate safety threat to the rest of the motoring and pedestrian public by the reckless manner in which it was driving.” The chase ended at Buckskin Avenue and Shady Timber Street, where Louis stopped, threw his keys out the window, and surrendered. The officer wrote in the report, “As soon as I removed Louis from the truck, I noticed a strong odor of unknown intoxicating beverage coming from his person,” and said Louis showed signs of intoxication such as bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, as reported by KTNV…
