Las Vegas man identified as gunman in Manhattan skyscraper shooting that left 5 dead, including himself

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A gunman from Las Vegas shot five people, killing four, including an off-duty New York City police officer, inside a Manhattan skyscraper, before fatally shooting himself, officials confirmed Monday.

Officials identified the shooter as Shane Tamura, 27. Tamura carried a Las Vegas Metro Police Department concealed carry permit, a law enforcement source told the 8 News Now Investigators. Officials in New York City located identification on Tamura’s body, including the permit, according to AP sources.

Tamura was arrested in 2023 on a trespassing charge, though prosecutors later dropped it, records said. Tamura’s criminal record includes minor traffic violations.

Four people died in Monday’s shooting, including NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, who was an immigrant from Bangladesh, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said.
