A recent vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision has left one man with potentially life-threatening injuries, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The incident, which took place last Thursday, was the result of a hit-and-run near the intersection of Rampart Boulevard and Vegas Drive.
The collision occurred around 2:24 p.m., when a Ram 1500, driven by 27-year-old Roberto Olivas of Las Vegas, veered out of control. After overtaking vehicles in the right-turn-only lane, Olivas’ vehicle struck the south curb on Vegas Drive, crossed the intersection at North Buffalo Drive, and tore through the sidewalk and landscaping. In its path, the Ram collided with various street fixtures and a 61-year-old pedestrian waiting at a bus stop shelter, before overturning and coming to a stop.
As reported by LVMPD’s official release, both the pedestrian, whose identity is pending notification, and Olivas were transported to UMC Hospital. The pedestrian suffered critical injuries, while Olivas sustained minor injuries.
