Judge sentences woman who killed Las Vegas carpet cleaner in ‘random act’

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A judge sentenced a woman to a minimum of 16 years in prison for killing a carpet cleaner in a random act of violence.

Kayla Alery, 28, stood handcuffed in court and asked for mercy from Clark County District Court Judge Tierra Jones before being sentenced for the murder of 41-year-old Raul Cardoza.

“It was a very random act against somebody who was going to work. And this is a tragic situation all the way around,” Judge Jones said…
