Mother, son arrested after 58-year-old woman shot in the back multiple times

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 58-year-old woman who was shot in the back multiple times died after she was sent from northwest Arizona to a Las Vegas hospital.

Bullhead City police arrested Tyler Rey Nelson, 21, and his mother, Toni Marie Sierra, 40, both of Fort Mohave, after responding to a weapons offense on Wednesday at about 7:40 p.m. They were booked into the Mohave County Jail in Kingman before the victim died, according to police. Police said Thursday they are now investigating the shooting as a homicide.

The victim, who was not identified by police, had been taken to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center before she was transferred to Las Vegas. That’s common for patients who need care that smaller hospitals aren’t always equipped to provide.

Nelson was arrested about 20 minutes after police were called to the scene in the 1000 block of Holly Street in Bullhead City. Police made a traffic stop at about 8 p.m. near Alona’s Way and Trane Road, and a firearm was found inside the vehicle…
