It typically starts with a very attractive posting on reputable career sites like ZipRecruiter or LinkedIn. It claims to come from a respected company, offers excellent pay and benefits, and involves relatively light responsibilities. So you apply. Within days, a hiring manager calls you to set up an interview.
During the call, they’ll imply the job is yours, then send you a link to confirm your direct deposit information and speed up the hiring process. Unfortunately, this job doesn’t pass the background check, because it’s a scam! The job post and the site are both fake, and now your sensitive information is in the hands of cybercriminals…
