Las Vegas police arrest man with prior drug trafficking conviction, deported twice

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man with a prior drug trafficking conviction has been sentenced to more than a year for illegally reentering the United States after being deported twice, officials said.

According to the Department of Justice, Jose Miguel Gutierrez-Chavarria, 37, was sentenced to 13 months and one day in prison on Tuesday, followed by three years of supervised release , after he pleaded guilty to one count of Deported Alien Found in the United States.

Gutierrez-Chavarria was arrested on Dec. 13, 2024, by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on three counts, including selling and trafficking controlled substances, court documents said. He was released on bail but retaken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Feb. 20, 2025…
