Step back in time; see a very different Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Thousands of years ago, ice age animals roamed the Las Vegas valley, leaving behind evidence of their existence, which can be seen at the Ice Age Fossils State Park in North Las Vegas.

Imagine 20,000 years ago, when Tule Springs was a green, marshy landscape where animals such as Columbian mammoths, American lions, camels, dire wolves, and ground sloths once roamed.

As a result, there have been some major fossil discoveries at the site, including two Columbian mammoth tusks, each weighing more than 100 pounds. The fossils can be found in the visitor center.

Park Interpreter Dawn Reynoso said the park provides a unique adventure for families, and special events are planned for September…
