Unborn baby dies, child fighting for life in suspected DUI multi-vehicle crash in south Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A pregnant woman lost her unborn baby, a child was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, and at least two others were hospitalized in a suspected DUI crash in the south Las Vegas valley, according to Metro police.

On Saturday around 2:20 p.m., Metro police responded to the intersection of Blue Diamond Road and Las Vegas Boulevard after several reports of a crash involving three mid-sized SUVs and a minivan.

Police said the crash happened when 27-year-old Maximiliano Chavez, driving a Jeep Cherokee, ran a red light as a Subaru Forester was turning left on a green light. The impact pushed the Subaru into a Toyota Sienna, while the Jeep hit a BMW.

Chavez failed field sobriety tests, according to LVMPD Lt. Cody Fulwiler. Chavez was taken to a local hospital and was later booked into the Clark County Detention Center for DUI-related charges…
