LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A mother of a Nevada state prison inmate who died while in custody will receive a $4.6 million settlement, according to her attorney James Urrutia. The state agreed to pay the settlement, which is the largest wrongful death settlement in the state’s history, Urrutia said.
Annette Walker filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Nevada Department of Corrections, its management, several correctional officers, and the Clark County Coroner’s office in April 2024.
Christian Walker, 44, was found unresponsive inside a cell at High Desert State Prison on April 15, 2023. Officers used force against Walker two days before his death, according to records.
