With Nevada’s soaring housing costs, one group is trying to make living more affordable

LAS VEGAS — Clark County residents are feeling the pinch of rising housing costs, with many finding it increasingly difficult to afford homes or rent. DeAngelo, a local resident, said, “Rent is very expensive. And owning a home, buying a house.” He noted that prices in 2025 are significantly higher than in previous years, stating, “Probably three times the amount. Because I remember when you could get a 400,000-dollar home. And that was like a mini-mansion. Now that will get you a townhome.”

Another resident, Linda, echoed these concerns, saying, “It is really expensive with the prices of groceries and stuff. And you got to take care of your family. And the rates right now. I mean, nobody can afford it right no,w it is way too high.”

Inez, who purchased her home decades ago, expressed relief that her home is paid off, admitting she couldn’t afford it today due to high down payments. “The down payment and everything that you have to put down is outrageous,” she said.

Financial advisors recommend saving at least 25% of a home’s purchase price. For Southern Nevada’s average home price of $480,000, this means having $120,000 in savings…
