Shooting at Las Vegas’ Nellis AFB main gate leads to closure, investigation

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nellis Air Force Base reopened its main gate nearly nine hours after closing it following an overnight incident where security officers shot a man who allegedly fired several rounds.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan police, a man opened fire at the main gate and pointed his gun at base security around 12:30 a.m. Nellis AFB security officers fired at the man, striking him in the leg.

The man was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A temporary gate was opened for base traffic while the main gate remained closed until nearly 9 a.m. for police to conduct an investigation…
