Sentencing delayed again 10 years after woman allegedly drove on Las Vegas sidewalk killing 1, injuring dozens

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Another delay in a murder case that’s been nearly 10 years in the making. A woman who allegedly drove onto a Las Vegas Strip sidewalk, killing a woman and injuring dozens of others in 2015, was supposed to be sentenced Thursday morning, but wasn’t.

Lakeisha Holloway, 34, who changed her name to Paris Morton, agreed to a plea deal and pleaded guilty in August to one count of second-degree murder and one count of battery, both with the use of a deadly weapon. She initially faced 71 charges but was found mentally incompetent, which led to a series of delays in her trial. She had also previously changed attorneys in the case.

Holloway appeared in the Clark County District Court courtroom on Thursday and asked that her attorney be changed. The judge reset her next appearance for Oct. 9.

On Dec. 20, 2015, Holloway drove onto a sidewalk in front of Planet Hollywood, killing Jessica Valenzuela, the mother of three from Arizona, and injuring nearly 40 other people.

At the time of the crash, Holloway had her 3-year-old daughter in the car, and told police she was suffering a “mental breakdown.” She and her daughter were living in her car after leaving Portland, Oregon, and arriving in Las Vegas several days before the crash. They were staying in parking garages, but she told police they kept getting kicked out by security guards…
