National Public Lands Day stresses preserving spaces for the future

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Community members and elected officials came together Tuesday for a block party in Las Vegas to celebrate Nevada’s 9th annual Public Lands Day.

The event is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on key policies and initiatives aimed at preserving Nevada’s public lands for future generations.

Senator Dina Titus, a Democrat, said public lands have never been more threatened than now.

“It’s really rough out there, and we have unfortunately gone from the luxury of being on the offense, where we are creating and protecting monuments and public lands, to being on the defense,” she said. “They will do everything they can to sell off our public lands. To take away the protections of our public lands to drill and cut forests on our public lands.”

“We’ve proven that people power can protect rivers, mountains, and deserts,” said Barbara Hartzeill, with Native Voters Alliance Nevada. She was one of the speakers. (Nevada Conservation League)
